Ladies Soccer
The ladies completed their first ever league campaign on Sunday in Division 2B of the Wexford Women's League, unfortunately without a game as their opposition failed to appear. The weekend marked the end of a successful season though for the girls many of who were playing competitively for the first time. In what was a difficult season mainly due to the pro-longed beak as result of the poor weather during the winter but the girls showed great commitment with training and noticeable improvement on matchdays as the season progressed. A well deserved break will now be taken from training before re-starting in preparation for next season. Congratulations to two of our youngest players, Niamh White and Josephine Scallon who shared the Top Goalscorer Award with 5 goals each. The Player of the Year will be named this weekend and will be included in next weeks paper.
Training for the ladies takes place every Monday and Wednesday at Rosslare Community Centre and new players of any standard are always welcome to join. Anyone who may be interested in playing should call Davy on 086-8819532. As with the mens team everyone is encouraged to come down and support the ladies games. Fixtures are also available every week in the People paper or in Redmond's "The Bay".
Ladies' Soccer Update
Rosslare Strand A.F.C Ladies, captain Emma Kehoe, picked up 'The Player of the Year Award' at the weekend. The award marked a great season for Emma who made the centre half position her own through some excellent performances in partnership with her other centre half Danielle Long as well as Amanda Buggy and Louise Jeffers both at full back. Emma also found time during the season to score her debut goal for the club, pouncing on a loose ball from a corner in an away victory over Cloughbawn. The club congratulates Emma on her achievement. Also congratulations to two of our youngest players Josephine Scallon aged 17 and Niamh White aged 16 who shared the Top Goalscorer of the Year Award. Niamh's haul included an excellent hat-trick at home to Carnew which single-handed rescued a point for the team. These girls will be two soccer stars of the future here in Wexford.
